Radiation safety service providers play an important role in supporting organisations that use ionising radiation. FANR Regulation 30 establishes a regulatory framework for radiation safety services in the UAE.
What does a radiation safety service provider do?
Depending on the approved scope, technical providers may support organisations with specialised radiation safety activities such as assessments, measurements, testing, training or other regulated services.
Why competence and scope matter
Facilities should confirm that a service provider is appropriately authorised for the specific service required. A provider’s general experience is not a substitute for checking its current approved scope and applicable requirements.
Examples of technical support
- Radiation safety assessments
- Radiation surveys and measurements
- Equipment performance and quality control testing
- Shielding evaluations
- Radiation protection programme support
- Training and competency development
How facilities should prepare
Before engaging a provider, define the scope, equipment, location, required deliverables, reporting format and regulatory purpose. Keep service reports and certificates with the facility’s compliance records.
