Transfer a Healthcare Professional Licence from MOHAP to SHA Sharjah
Moving from a healthcare facility regulated by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) to one regulated by Sharjah Health Authority (SHA) requires confirmation of the correct licensing route. An existing MOHAP licence should not be assumed to convert automatically into an SHA licence. Medcare Hub helps professionals and facilities organise documents and understand the questions to confirm with SHA before applying.
Important: Confirm the exact route with SHA before submitting. Depending on your current status and intended facility, the process may be a new SHA professional licence application or another procedure permitted by SHA—not necessarily a direct “transfer” service.
1. Confirm the destination facility and regulator
Obtain the intended employer’s full facility name, location and SHA facility licence details. Ask the facility’s authorised representative whether it is SHA-regulated and which professional application workflow should be used. Do not use a MOHAP transfer service intended for transfers between facilities under MOHAP if your destination is regulated by SHA.
2. Review your current MOHAP status
Before preparing the SHA application, confirm that your current professional licence and registration details are accurate. Collect a copy of your licence, professional title, specialty, current employment details and any status or cancellation/clearance documents that the relevant authorities or destination facility require. Ask SHA whether your current licence must remain active during application and what evidence it needs from MOHAP.
3. Documents to prepare
Use the current SHA checklist as the final authority. Depending on the category and circumstances, preparation may include:
- Passport and Emirates ID.
- Current MOHAP professional licence and any previous professional registration records requested.
- Qualification certificates, transcripts and internship/training evidence.
- Experience certificates and professional history.
- Good Standing Certificate from the appropriate authority, if required.
- PSV/verification results and examination/assessment evidence, as required by SHA.
- Offer letter or employment evidence from the SHA-regulated facility.
- Valid medical malpractice insurance evidence as required.
- NOC, undertaking or additional facility documentation where the selected licence type requires it.
Documents and validity periods vary by profession, title and application type. Do not assume a previous verification report or certificate will automatically be accepted for the SHA application.
4. Recommended application sequence
- Confirm the destination facility is SHA-licensed and ask its representative to identify the correct SHA service.
- Compare your qualifications and experience with the current UAE PQR and SHA requirements for the requested title.
- Ask SHA which MOHAP licence-status, Good Standing and transfer/clearance documents are required.
- Prepare verification, assessment, insurance and facility documents according to the official checklist.
- Have the authorised facility representative submit the application through the SHA electronic portal when required.
- Respond to requests for clarification and pay official fees through the designated channel.
- Wait for the required SHA approval and verify the issued licence and scope before beginning work.
5. Can I keep practising under MOHAP while SHA is processing?
Do not infer permission from a pending application. Your authority to practise depends on your current licence, facility relationship, employment status and the rules that apply to each location. Confirm with MOHAP, SHA and both facilities whether any cancellation, release, transfer or new activation step is required. Do not start work at the destination facility until the required SHA licence/approval is active.
6. Renewal after moving to SHA
Once licensed under SHA, follow SHA’s renewal schedule and requirements, not the assumptions or reminders from your previous MOHAP licence. Check the expiry date, current renewal window, insurance, CME/CPD, identity details, outstanding violations and facility-side submission requirements. Keep copies of the final licence and renewal receipts.
7. Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming a MOHAP licence is automatically valid for an SHA-regulated facility.
- Choosing the wrong service because it is labelled “transfer”.
- Letting a licence or Good Standing Certificate expire while documents are being prepared.
- Using inconsistent professional titles across the licence, offer letter and qualifications.
- Starting work before the required SHA approval is active.
- Assuming PSV, fees, timelines or requirements are identical across authorities.
Frequently asked questions
Is there always a direct MOHAP-to-SHA transfer process?
Do not assume there is a universal direct-transfer route. Confirm the correct procedure with SHA for your professional category and destination facility.
Will my MOHAP DataFlow result be accepted by SHA?
Acceptance depends on SHA’s current requirements and your application. Ask SHA whether existing verification can be used or whether additional verification is needed.
Does the new employer submit the application?
SHA’s published professional licence service describes facility-representative involvement. Confirm the exact submission responsibility for your case with the destination facility and SHA.
How long does it take?
Timelines depend on document completeness, verification and authority review. Check the current SHA service card for its published duration and do not treat an estimate as a guarantee.
Official resources to verify
Review the SHA services directory, the SHA professional licence service, the MOHAP transfer service for eligible professionals holding DoH/DHA/SHA licences, and the Unified PQR. The MOHAP transfer service is not proof of an automatic MOHAP-to-SHA conversion; use it only if its published conditions match your case.
